Social Media Thursday-- So Whats Changed?

1).Which ones integrate best with the type of business you have created?

Before taking this course I really wasn't interested in Business Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr as a platform to express our online content. My social media efforts have always leaned toward YouTube and blogging as part of our marketing goals. What has changed for me is how to incorporate these free tools in order to support what we are already doing. Essentially, for me the link between a blog post and a video (hosted on YouTube) now is Facebook, Twitter Tumblr etc. Without them there is no audience—and no audience equals no revenue (which I’m used to)! Now, I have begun to see just how important it is to build a professional following on these sites which connects the missing dots.
2).Which have you enjoyed using the most?

I Like Tumblr because of its micro video capabilities for mobile devices. For me it forces the story telling content to be brief, to the point, and looped in case you miss something the first time. What’s great about the linking capabilities is that Tumblr will post to Facebook that will post to Twitter. For now, the goal is to post in one place (hub) and connect with all the social peripherals (platforms) with one post.

3). The enthusiasm or lack thereof for a type of media is often shared along with the posts we write. This class gave you an opportunity to experiment with a variety of them. Now you can focus in on what seems the most effective ones to use.

If you’re interested, I charted out my ”the necessary production time required” to support  the next big quantum leap forward in reaching our branding goals. To see my time flow chart just follow the link on my next post to find out more.

Thank you,

Eric

  1. Hi Eric.

Thank you for your wonderful and thorough post! Tumblr is a great platform for short video storytelling but I am wondering if it is kind of an older school app that is on its way out due to the new way of doing this via VINE. What are your thoughts on this?

  2. Hi Michelle,
Vine is an awesome platform for 6 second video shorts, especially geared toward mobile--but there is also "Mix Bit" (which I'm unfamiliar with) but will be checking out here soon. Have you heard anything about it?
    Thanks,
    Eric

  3. As always I enjoy reading your blogs and following your posts. I have not gotten in to the You tube posts or tumblr yet, although I can see from your posts how they could be very beneficial to our company. I think for me I find it hard because although I do the office work for the company, that is not the information I would be posting and You tubing about. The actual construction side of our company is what would be of interest in a blog, post or you tube, so I feel I need to learn more about that in order to process interesting videos, or blogs. Once I do that I may feel more comfortable about trying out You Tube and Tumblr.

    1. Hi Bobbi,
Thank you for your support--I really appreciate it. Here's a thought, if your an office person, your blog could be about "Dealing with Deadlines--an A+ construction story". The trick is to post (almost anything quality) and then steer the conversation with each subsequent experience from there. After that capture (very short) videos and post them. For example, a meet the crew [showing happy guys teasing and working] clients like happy workers and tend to hire them (again and again). My next post goes into depth about how to schedule that process in real time.

    2. Hi Eric,
I think you are heading in the right direction with your type of business. Pictures of your finished products tell most of your story, it's just a matter of getting more people to see the results. Since Facebook is the largest social network, it makes sense to be there, even if it isn't your favorite medium. It wasn't mine either, but I've learned the error of my ways. Good luck to you!

    3. Hi Donn, I appreciate the encouragement. Overall, what I've discovered this semester is the understanding of the word "content knowledge". For example, just through these blog (collaborative discussions) I've picked up a whole host of potential directions I can go to post, contribute, and financially benefit from and be meaningful on the internet today--I think I finally get it!

  4. Hi Sean, I think you nailed it there. For me, (personality wise) in the field I'm both entertaining (with our clients) and deeply technical (which helps promote the brand) but our problem I have is expressing that enthusiasm properly online to reach new clients who could possibly enjoy that same experience as well .
